Our goal is to be as welcoming as possible. To do this we need to curb out aggression or fighting when it pops up. Furthermore, I personally (Logan) hate fighting of all kinds in open voice and open text chats. It is extremely upsetting to several of us at the top and will not condone it.
What is Aggression you might ask?
Aggression is when a situation between two members becomes tense in a non-friendly way. The following are ways to identify aggressive behavior.
Yelling
Excessive language use
Name calling
Over arguing
Not letting something go and keep bringing the conversation to it regardless of if things have moved on.
There are some instances where actions can be assumed to be aggressive but may not be. If someone is joking and the person outlined as the victim understands it as a joke, then we won't need to take as direct action there.
Our first rule here in our discord is all about respecting others and when aggression occurs it is hard for that rule to be maintain. There is never a situation where it is appropriate for anyone to openly engage with another member in our community over open voice chat. This includes more than just members as it also extends to our officers as well. We are all here to have fun, and that fun cannot be obtained when someone is taking their upset and frustrations out on anyone in our voice channels.
The following are the two types of people in a situation:
The Aggressor
Person creating the aggression and creating a problem.
Someone who followed up aggression with more aggression.
The Victim
Person being aggressively targeted by the aggressor.
What do you do if you're the victim of aggression?
Walking away can help, but it's never right that the victim has to be the one to distance themselves from something when they aren't the cause of the problem.
Walking away can be done by moving to another voice channel. If the person follows you then please report it to a staff member.
Seek an Officer.
We have Moderators and Elders available at all times. Try to document as much as possible and seek out some of officer rank to handle it.
Don't engage!
It takes two to fight. If the other is baiting, you into fighting the worst response is to respond in a way to take that bait.
If you did take the bait, you're both breaking the fighting rules and committing aggression between each other.
If the attacks are through texts, try your best not to respond.
Screen capture them and send them to an officer.
Responding to text messages opens the door to create more conflict.
Try to change the subject if your comfortable.
Sometimes people just get worked up about dumb things and changing the subject may snap them back and calm things down.
Even if it works, please document it and let an officer know.
Never feel like you have to leave. You're not the problem here. When shit hits the fan do your best to look after yourself. When the officers come down with punishments to those causing the problem they will always go for the aggressors not the victims (Unless you became an aggressor by fighting back.)
What happens if you're the one committing the aggression?
Not good things, that's for sure. Can be but isn't limited to:
Server Muting
Server Timeout
Server Ban
We do not support fighting here, for no matter what the reasons may be.
How should you resolve problems with other members or an officer?
Talk to them in private.
Seek mediation.
Document and send to an officer not involved.
Never yell at the other person. It doesn't help.
How should an Officer try to resolve the issue?
Issue a Mute/timeout if needed. Document why you did it.
Try to mediate between the two if the victim is willing.
Remind people of our rules to try and disarm the situation.
If another officer is in the room consult with them.
ALWAYS DOCUMENT EVERYTHING
